So, who is Maya Sienna?
I am a 16-year-old Pop singer/songwriter born in the Tampa Bay Area. I discovered my love for music at the age of 6; it was “love at first song” as I like to say. I started uploading covers on Youtube when I was 14 years old and have been set on my musical journey ever since. I have been to Los Angeles, Atlanta, Miami, and of course Tampa, to record my music with some amazing producers and am currently working on more original music this summer. My newest release is a pop/dance song called Just Believe. It is about following your dreams and believing in yourself no matter what anyone tells you.
How would you describe your music in two sentences?
My music is mainly pop – in which I love to add influences of other genres. When writing a song, I will write from the heart and express what I am feeling at that moment.
In what ways does the place where you live affect the music you create, or your taste in music?
I have always been around a lot of all genres in the areas where I have lived. Growing up, I listened to R&B and old school Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, Aaliyah, and more. Those genres and artists have influenced a soulful side in my vocal style. I am also drawn to artists that have a soulful touch to their voice.
When was the last time you wrote a song? What can you tell us about it?
I wrote a song last night actually. It is an upbeat and fun dance song about being happy and feeling on top of the world.
As you create more music, do you find yourself getting more or less interested in seeking out and listening to new music made by other people?
I find myself more interested in seeking out and listening to new music made by other people. Hearing new music inspires me to think outside of the box and to become even more creative.
Lately, what musical periods or styles do you find yourself most drawn to as a listener?
I have been listening to a lot of old school songs as well as newer songs. I like to listen to all genres and styles of music.
Name a band or musician, past or present, which you flat-out LOVE and think more people should be listening to. What’s one of your all-time favorite recordings by this band/musician?
I absolutely LOVE Sam Smith! He has recently had a lot of radio play in the US and I am so happy more people have had the chance to hear how amazingly talented he is. My all-time favorite recording would definitely have to be “Safe With Me”.
